The race, known as "The Most Exciting Two Minutes in Sports" for its approximate time length, is the first leg of the Triple Crown of Thoroughbred Racing in the United States. The new system will award points for win, place, show and 4 th place finishes for races as the graded stakes earnings method has now been retired. The Road to the Kentucky Derby schedule will only offer up to 10 points for a win with the first leg of the Kentucky Derby Championship Series offering up to 50 points for a win and the second leg offering up to 100 points for a win.
