Notes:
Jamie Theriot was brought up in a family where most of the members rode races in the United States horse racing circuit. He followed their family pattern of riding in the Cajun region of Louisiana. He started racing at an early age only seven or eight years old and thereafter went for taking training from professional trainers and then rode in various tracks of the United States. Once he said that at five he started riding a horse at the farm and got inspiration in riding from his father, Harold Theriot. Harold galloped horses for more than sixteen years and became a trainer thereafter. After Jamie s completion of schooling at secondary level, he galloped horses under his father s guidance. Jamie has shown his brevity in horse racing since his childhood days. When he was only thirteen or fourteen years old, he did not bother wearing helmet or tennis shoes. By the time he reached fifteen, he was a matured rider once he said he always wanted to be a jockey ever since he can remember. It is very common in Cajun that most of the riders get license at an early age Jamie is no exception of that. He got license for riding at sixteen and within a few months he broke his leg. He returned to riding after quite a long gap at Delta Downs. His first win came with Majestic Fleur, in 1996 at Evangeline Downs while his first stakes winners was Horse Fly in the 1997 Delta Downs Handicap for trainer Tommy Delahoussaye. Theriot raced on the Louisiana circuit for the next five years and in the last year at Evangeline Downs, 2001, he became the leading rider. Theriot expressed his interest of riding for the trainer Cole Norman and joined with him at Louisiana Downs. Thereafter, he traveled to Oaklawn Park and on to Lone Star and Fair Grounds. He raced in that circuit for nearly five years and again became the leading rider in 2003 but now at Oaklawn. During this time, he had a lot of opportunities for coming to Kentucky. The 2005 racing session again brought him a cluster of wins he won the Hot Springs Stakes on That Tat, the Lone Star Oaks on Victory Lap and the Evangeline Mile Handicap on Shaky Tour, all for Norman. He has also won stakes races for Steve Asmussen, Sturges Ducoing and Kari Craddock. Many distinguished personality has commented on Theriot Aime told Jennie Rees of The Courier Journal about Theriot I love him as a rider. His work ethics are exceptional and he s got a magnetic personality. He has got the tools working for him.
