Road to the Kentucky Derby

The Road to the Kentucky Derby includes 46 prep races with new schedules with a points system for 2019. The previous format of graded stakes race and the accumulation of graded stakes earnings is gone and now there will be two schedules in which trainers and horses can accumulate points to earn their way into the 2019 Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs.

Trainers and horses will be awarded points for a win, points for a place, points for a show and points if they round out the superfecta and finish in 4th place. Kentucky Derby Point System . Winning a prep race can get a horse anywhere from 10 up to 100 points depending on the race.

Road to the Derby Schedule

Below you will find the schedule for the "Road to the Kentucky Derby" which is the first of the two schedules of Prep Race dates. The Road to the Kentucky Derby schedule does not offer as many points for each races when compared to the second schedule but it offers trainers a chance to pick up an early points lead before the Kentucky Derby Championship Series starts.
