Rajiv s father Collin was a jockey in their native country Jamaica. Later Collin took up horse training in South Florida.

Rajiv Maragh is a second generation horseman. Rajiv started galloping horses for his father and got his first competitive mount after his high school diploma. Maragh started his career at Monmuth Park in New Jersey under his agent Racing Hall of Fame jockey Angel Cordero.
